Drake's Story

Drake's Story

Drake is a special boy with a very rough past. When Drake first came to us, the neglect he had been through was horrendous...

He had been hit by a car, and was never properly treated for his injuries. As a result, he ended up needing an amputation of one of his back legs. Even worse, we were told by animal control that he had been wounded by a knife and had lacerations all over his head. He was in need of immediate medical treatment. When we saw the condition this poor boy was in, and how sweet he was despite it all, we knew we had to help. Shortly after being informed of his condition, Drake became a part of Found's rescue and rehabilitation program! Many vet appointments and rehabilitative training sessions later, he was ready to find his forever family. He was adopted out a few years ago, however, due to life changes they could no longer provide the care Drake needs. Drake was of course welcomed back to Found Chicago with open arms to continue his search for his perfect forever family! He has spent some time getting back into the swing of things, training, and socializing. Drake is a very smart boy and eager to work, so its mostly refreshers!

Recently, we noticed Drake limping on the one back leg he does have, and had him examined by our vet immediately. It turns out, poor Drake had fully torn his CCL (better known as the ACL) and was in need of surgery to repair the tear as it was causing him both pain and to be unstable while walking. Now that Drake has had the surgery he so badly needed, we are asking for help in funding this. This handsome boy deserves all the love and care in the world but the surgery is costly, and we simply can't do it on our own!

Drake is on the road to recovery, able to begin exercising his back leg more and more each week. With time he should be healed and back to his very own three-legged version of "normal". Throughout all of this, we will continue to help him search for his forever home as we are positive that somewhere out there, is his perfect match waiting to find him. It seems that after such a hard life, Drake would do better in a home with no other pets, and adult humans only. His hope is to find a family where he can soak up all the attention and love he can get!
